Second graders read the book, “If I Built a House” by Chris Van Dusen as part of their summer homework. As part of a STEAM activity, second graders needed to create a dream home with their classmates. They discussed rooms that were designed in the book and brainstormed ideas for additional rooms that we could find in a dream house. Students sketched their ideas, shared those ideas with partners, and collaborated on a team to build a 3D house. The only materials available were index cards, clothespins, and popsicle sticks.
