During science, students asked questions to determine patterns in the energy system. They examined a dancing windup toy, listed a hierarchy of parts, and identified how components work together. They then sketched models, and constructed explanations, to determine the cause of the energy conversion in a system. They applied  scientific ideas to design, test, and refine a device that converts energy from one form to another. In pairs, students have been going through the engineering design process. They are acting as informed decision makers as they collaborate to make a solar powered toy using a mini solar cell, motor, light bulb, and various media. They are testing and improving their builds, using their understanding of science. Each solar toy is unique and really highlights the students’ creativity.
