The 19th Annual Captain Hyman P. Galbut Girls Basketball Shabbaton—the largest girls basketball Shabbaton in the country—is complete, with the Firehawks from Shalhevet High School in Los Angeles crowned champions for the second consecutive year. The Firehawks ended the tournament 6-0, beating the host Hebrew Academy Warriors in the final game by a final score of 46-42. The nail-biting championship loss ended what was an outstanding season for the Warriors, full of achievements and winning success that marked one of the best seasons in the school’s history.

The Warriors placed into the tournament’s championship game by going 3-0 in the seeding round, beating Goldie Margolin (TN), Hillel Yeshiva (NJ), and Rochelle Zell (IL). After earning the #1 seed going into the play-in round, the Warriors beat Ulpanat Orot (Toronto, CA) to enter the tournament’s semifinal round. The semifinal matchup vs. Yeshiva League power SKA (NY) was a back and forth game, seeing the Warriors pull away from the Sonics in the fourth quarter and win the game 45-34.

The Warriors were led by All-Tournament team performers Eli Wolfson and Shana Strohli. Other key contributors for the Warriors were Tali Winer, Lizzy Ebner, and Ella Turetsky.
