The Hebrew Academy’s College Guidance department provides personalized support for students from Grade 9 to Grade 12. Committed to helping students explore their post high school options, the program helps students find a university or college that suits their needs, interests, and abilities. With a focus on timely information and open communication, we facilitate the college admissions process through an accessible open-door policy.

 

 

College Guidance Timeline

Every Hebrew Academy student has access to the full-time College Counselor who provides guidance throughout the college admissions journey.

  • Orientation to the College Counseling Program: Presentation on importance of high school course grades and rigor, graduation requirements, college expectations
  • Introduction to SCOIR – the online platform and application we use to facilitate all aspects of the college counseling process
  • PSAT 8/9
  • SCOIR Career Interest Survey
  • AP Exams

  • Orientation to the College Counseling program for the year – Review academics, pre-college expectations, school involvement, GPA calculation
  • Further exploration of SCOIR – the online platform and application we use to facilitate all aspects of the college counseling process
  • PSAT 10
  • AP Exams

  • Orientation to the College Counseling program for the year – Preview of the college application process, importance of Junior year grades
  • Active engagement with SCOIR – the online platform and application we use to facilitate all aspects of the college counseling process
  • Review of transcript and cumulative GPA
  • College Admissions Representative visits to Hebrew Academy, calendar on SCOIR
  • PSAT/NMSQT
  • December Junior Parent College Night Presentation- Beginning the Path to College Admissions
  • Assist with SAT/ACT Sunday Registration
  • Initial meetings with individual students and parents
  • Individual meetings with juniors
  • AP Exams
  • Junior Bootcamp: review Common App instructions, Essay Prompts, requesting letters of recommendation, organizing, and deadlines

  • Senior Parent Night:  Orientation to the College Counseling program for the year – Applications, Admissions Decisions, Financial Aid, Bright Futures, etc.
  • Senior student individual meetings with the counselor.
  • Managing the application process in SCOIR
  • College Admissions Rep. Visits to Hebrew Academy, register through SCOIR
  • Mid-semester grade reports sent for early/priority decision applicants
  • Assistance with financial aid applications (FAFSA and CSS Profile) begins
  • Monthly Scholarship Newsletter posted on SCOIR
  • First semester grade reports sent to colleges
  • AP Exams
  • Final Transcripts sent to colleges
